Once again, though with more confidence this time, we convene at the conclusion of the Award’s Second Edition, as we rejoice in the highly promising works you have submitted, which can only be described as brilliant – to the full meaning of the word. You and your work have realised our goals, which – were it not for our unlimited ambition – we would have said that they realised our highest ambition.
With you, innovators, and through the “Beauty of Light” edition, we have taken a journey far beyond innovation; rather, we have entered the native home of innovation, the home of beauty itself, where we strolled through its alleys and inhaled the scent of its flowers, and were overwhelmed by the tale engraved on its walls, being one of the most magnificent we’ve read over the past year.
The art mastered by your hands belongs to none of you, nor to any of us; it belongs to the whole world. Photographers know very well that their displayed work needs no interpretation, words, numbers or codes; that’s why photography is a unique art unlike all the other arts or crafts. Truly, a picture paints a thousand words.
When we embarked on establishing the Award and laying down its vision and strategic goals, our sight was set on the future of this art, not its present. We sought to bring you together here in Dubai to launch you and the Award to all corners of the world. Here we are today, gathered again in Dubai with photographers from 121 countries, with the promise of meeting again during the third season of the competition.
Today, as we announce the names of the stars of the Beauty of Light’s tale, and make the achievements of the participating talents, including all finalists in the judging process, resonate around the world, we can only express our utmost pride in you. You rightfully own this success.
During the First Edition, I assured you of my keen interest in your work; and, today, as we announce the winners, I would like to confirm that I followed up on your work in every step up to this ceremony, which documents your success as a lifetime achievement in having reached excellence and distinction in the world’s biggest photography award – an Award that was established for you to realise your aspirations and proudly present you to the world.
I extend my sincerest wishes for you and for all those who contributed to the glittering success of the Beauty of Light.
